“NAD therapy” has become a popular term in wellness and longevity spaces. It's important to look at it through a ciritcal lens in order to get the best outcomes for you. Please note that this article is not professional medical advice.

NAD⁺ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a real and essential molecule. It plays a central role in metabolism, cellular energy production, and repair processes in the body. We know that for sure.

Where things get less clear is the idea that increasing NAD⁺ levels (i.e., through IV infusions or high-dose supplements) guarantees meaningful health benefits.

What NAD Therapy Typically Refers To

  • IV infusions of NAD⁺
  • Injections or high-dose supplements intended to raise NAD⁺ levels

What the Evidence Shows

  • NAD⁺ is biologically important: Strong evidence
  • Boosting NAD⁺ improves human health: Limited evidence
  • IV NAD therapy provides measurable benefits: Weak evidence
  • Anti-aging effects: Not proven
  • Energy or cognitive benefits: Inconsistent findings

I can see why many people gravitate towards this type of therapy. NAD⁺ levels decline with age, and restoring them sounds like a logical solution. But in practice, medical professional do not have strong clinical evidence showing that these therapies reliably improve health outcomes.

Verdict

There isn’t sufficient evidence to conclude that NAD therapy is broadly effective or even necessary.

It’s a good example of a compelling concept being marketed faster than it’s being researched.

What Actually Moves the Needle

If your goal is to have higher energy and healthier aging, the following fundamentals can help get you there:

  • Regular exercise (both resistance and aerobic)
  • Consistent, high-quality sleep
  • Maintaining metabolic health (body composition, glucose control)
  • A balanced, nutrient-dense diet

These support overall health and influence NAD⁺ levels naturally.
